VOLUNTEER WITH US

192c63c7-3c39-46a3-aee6-11c3693c76a9_edited.jpg

Every Tuesday + the first Sunday of each month 10am-4pm

Volunteers are an integral part of Community Roots.

We simply can not run without the help we get each week, sowing, planting, harvesting, clearing and maintaining our garden. We have had volunteers aged from 2 to 92 (and most ages in between) and we make sure we always have a range of jobs to suit all ages and abilities. We aim to be properly inclusive and we believe that everyone can find something they can enjoy and do well at Roots.

Some of our volunteers come to learn about growing, some come to socialise, some come to spend time outdoors, some want to contribute to a cause which feels important, and some come for all of the above, plus cake!  Whatever you're after, we will have activities to suit you.

Just turn up

Our Tuesday sessions run from 10am to 4pm and our Sunday sessions run from 10am to 2pm. You are welcome to come any
time between these times and stay for as long or short a time as suits you. No need
to let us know you’re coming, just turn up!

Come Prepared

We are on an exposed site and get a lot of "weather" up at Roots, so we advise people to come with appropriate footwear and clothing (wind and rain proof jackets and boots with good grip).

We have a small selection of spare jackets, waterproof trousers and gloves but to avoid disappointment we recommend you provide your own.

Veg

We make sure there are always some veg each week for volunteers to take
home.

If you want a full veg bag, we have a limited number of harvest workshare
positions where volunteers exchange 4 hours/week helping to harvest and pack our veg bags in exchange for a weekly bag. If you’d like to know more about this
opportunity, please email us on info@communityroots.uk.

Accessability

Disabled parking is available at the garden and the entrance  is wheelchair accessible but as this is a working farm pathways can be muddy. Toilets (including disabled toilets) are found at the Eco Park around 200m away. We want our project to be accessible for everyone. If you are unsure if our site will be suitable for you, do get in touch to chat about it.

Refreshments

We provide hot drinks, cake and biscuits late morning and delicious home made soup (made with our veg) at lunch time. You're welcome to join us for these regardless of how long or little you are able to stay.
