Still We Grow

ree

It’s been a while since our last Blog/News update, but we’re still here, digging, growing and building. The Big Shed is now complete, standing proud as a new heart of Community Roots. Funded through the Good Growth Levelling Up Fund, this beautiful, fully accessible space gives us a home for courses, workshops and gatherings, as well as a commercial kitchen and a Changing Places toilet. It has opened up exciting opportunities, but it has also brought new challenges as we learn how to make it work for us, both practically and financially.

What has not changed is the spirit of Roots. Our volunteer days are busier than ever, filled with energy, laughter and obligitary (and highly appreciated) cake and soup. It is an amazing thing to see so many people turn up, week after week, ready to graft and share. On any given Tuesday, there might be forty people here, each with their own story and reason for coming. Together, they make the work lighter, the days brighter and the vegetables possible.

But we also want to use this space, our Roots News page, to share more than updates. We want to talk honestly about what it really feels like to run a CSA in the current climate. It is not easy. The planning, knowledge and sheer hard work it takes to get a single onion to grow can be staggering. Add in rising costs, unpredictable weather and the pressure to stay sustainable, and it is a constant balancing act. Yet, through it all, the sense of purpose and connection keeps us going.

So expect stories from the field, reflections from the team and glimpses of the everyday highs and lows that make Community Roots , a place powered by people, purpose and hope.
