Our Story
Our Origins
Community Roots began with the belief, everyone should have access to fresh, healthy food grown in ways that care for people and planet.
Founded as a Community Supported Agriculture project in Porthtowan, we started by growing seasonal produce and connecting local people directly with the land and the food they eat. As we've grown, so has our understanding of the challenges facing our communities and our food system.
Today, Community Roots is about much more than growing vegetables. We work to build a fairer, more sustainable future by tackling some of the issues that affect both people and the environment, from food accessibility and equality to waste, wellbeing and community resilience.

Through regenerative food growing, education, volunteering, events and shared community experiences, we create opportunities for people to connect with nature, learn new skills and take positive action. We are committed to making healthy, locally grown food more accessible, reducing reliance on single use packaging and supporting practical solutions that help communities thrive.
Everything we do is guided by our mission:
Growing food and community in planet positive ways.
By bringing people togetherg to create stronger communities, healthier lives and a more sustainable future for all.around food, nature and shared purpose, we are helping to create stronger communities, healthier lives and a more sustainable future for all.

Our Values

We believe everyone should have access to healthy food, opportunities to learn and spaces where they feel welcome and valued.
Community
Strong communities are built through participation, collaboration and mutual support. We create opportunities for people to connect, share skills and work together.
Sustainability
We work with nature, not against it, using approaches that protect and regenerate the environment for future generations.
Inclusion
We welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities and strive to ensure our activities are accessible to the widest possible community.
Positive Action
We believe meaningful change happens when people come together to take practical steps towards a healthier, fairer and more sustainable future.
Meet the Team

Community Roots was set up and is run by our directors, Antonia, Nicky, Matty and Manda. All have experience growing food using nature friendly methods, along with a range of experience of working with people, project management, and environmental activism.
For all four of us, Community Roots fulfills long held dreams of enabling the community to learn and practice environmentally sustainable methods of food production, building community, reducing social isolation and reconnecting to nature and to the land.
