The Roots Story

We have converted one acre of bare agricultural land into a productive, no-dig, market garden. We produce low-impact, locally grown, healthy food for our community, growing without using chemicals in ways which encourage biodiversity and soil health. We do this with our community, offering volunteering and learning opportunities and hosting activities and events.

Donations

We are a Community Interest Company, meaning that every penny we earn goes into helping us to make the world a better place. We believe passionately that locally grown veg that are good for us and for the planet should be affordable, but the reality is that in our current financial system this simply isn’t the case, and it’s very tricky for projects like ours to make ends meet.

If like us you share a vision of a world where everyone can eat the healthiest seasonal local veg, please consider making a donation to support our work. You can choose whether you donate to support our work overall, or your money can directly buy veg for someone who can’t afford them. Every penny really does make a difference.

Success with Funding

While our goal is to become financially self-sufficient, funding has been essential to the growth of Roots. We are incredibly grateful to all the organisations that have supported us so far, including South West Water (who paid for us to install a rainwater harvesting system), Cornwall Community Foundation and The National Lottery (supporting us to us grow and develop our project), St Agnes Parish Council (who have provided vital equipment),

We also ran a hugely successful Crowd funder which was matched by money from Cornwall Council which paid for a polytunnel and a wind-break fence to protect it.

Our most recent success with funding is for a brand new Building (currently under construction) This building project was funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and will include commercial kitchen, multi use indoor area, garden office, veg storage area and a changing places accessible toilet.
